Nectar Mattress Construction
The Nectar mattress uses multiple layers of memory foam, including an inch quilted into the cover, to create a true memory foam feel for the sleeper. With this construction the mattress has a focus on pressure relief that should give the feeling of sinking into the mattress and be a plus for side sleepers.
Nectar Mattress Problems
Cover– The cover is very soft and is made of a tencel-cotton blend. Tencel is an eco-friendly material made from trees and is known for being highly breathable.
Not only is the cover soft and breathable, it is an important part of the overall support the mattress provides. A 1 inch layer of gel memory foam is included right in the cover. This component of the cover helps to relieve pressure and contour to the body. Gel memory foam also does a good job of staying cool to defend against sleeping too hot. This combination of the gel memory foam with the tencel material equal a soft cover layer that does a good job of maintaining a comfortable body temperature.
Middle Layers– The Nectar mattress uses two layers of memory foam below the cover to create the comfort layer of the mattress. Once through the inch of gel memory foam quilted into the cover we find a 3 inch layer of memory foam. This layer is very slow to respond to pressure and helps with weight distribution and pressure relief. Along with the cover layer of gel memory foam, this layer helps contour to the body so the sleeper will get a classic memory foam feel on the Nectar mattress.
The next layer down is another layer of memory foam that is meant to act as a transition layer from the soft upper layers before reaching the base layer below. While still a type of memory foam it is a bit springier and faster to respond to pressure than the above layers. Again, this memory foam layer provides pressure relief but with the added bounce to keep the sleeper from getting stuck and transition to the firm base layer.
Base Layer– The base of the mattress is a dense poly foam. This layer supports the comfort layers up top and creates the foundation of the mattress. The base also makes sure the sleeper doesn’t fall through the mattress and helps it keep its shape.
Nectar Mattress Problems
Nectar Mattress Firmness
When pressing the top of the mattress there is an initial softness thanks to the memory foam, both the layers quilted in the cover and the slow responding layer beneath that. These layers are great for pressure relief which is a very important aspect of any mattress, especially for side sleepers.
If you are a side sleeper or are a bit heavier you may push through the soft layers pretty quickly. Once through those layers I found the transition layer to be a bit firmer and do a good job of starting to support the sleeper without hitting the sudden firmness of the base layer.
Nectar Mattress Motion Transfer
If you share your bed with a partner, motion transfer is an important concept to consider before purchase. How does the Nectar perform when it comes to late-night disturbances caused by a tossing and turning sleep partner? Memory foam does a good job of isolating motion transfer. Nectar performs well, the quilted cover combined with the next layer of slow responding memory foam do a good job of keeping the disturbance low.
